New Video: JPQ on JazzTV

After many failed attempts, countless unnecessary downloads and lots of files in the trash, I finally figured out how to get this video down to a manageable size. I’m like that monkey who writes Shakespeare…

Click here to watch the full, unedited program. The first part is a 20 minute interview with the band members (Jason, Josh Rawlings, Evan Flory-Barnes & D’Vonne Lewis). The second part is a performance by the JPQ. We play three of my original compositions, my arrangement of a traditional Jewish prayer, and the beautiful Sam Rivers composition “Beatrice”.

What I remember most from watching the video is how it was freezing cold in the studio and how sick poor Josh was. Thanks for being able to be in the moment nonetheless and play some beautiful piano, Brother J!

Here are the individual tunes for your viewing pleasure:

Beatrice (Sam Rivers)

Bashert (Jason Parker)

You and Me (Jason Parker)

Tree of Life (trad., arranged by Jason Parker)

Contact (Jason Parker)

Enjoy!

JazzTV aired last night!

As noted earlier in the blog, the JPQ was featured on JazzTV last night. I was pleasantly surprised by how it all turned out.

As soon as I figure out how to post the video I’ll put a link here. In the meantime, please enjoy these photos from the session, taken by Janet Christensen-O’Brien.

More chances to catch the band

If you missed our recent performance at Egan’s never fear, because we have many chances for you to catch some or all of the JPQ live coming up. If you’re considering hiring us for a wedding, party or event, there’s no better way to experience us than live in concert.

We have dates coming up at Mona’s Bistro & Lounge, The Repp, The Musicquarium Lounge, Castle Key Restaurant (see below) and ArtWalk Issaquah. Click here for a full listing of our upcoming dates.

Returning to the Castle

Last September we had the pleasure of kicking of the Fall Jazz Dinner Series at Castle Key Restaurant at Manresa Castle in lovely Pt. Townsend, WA. The castle is amazing, old, and reportedly haunted, and we had a blast playing for the folks in the restaurant and then staying the night, which we spent playing cards and drinking some fine wine! We didn’t see any ghosts, but it was a great getaway, and we’re happy they’ve asked us back for their new Spring Jazz Series.

We’ll perform on Saturday, May 10th from 8-11pm. They have dinner and show packages, or if you want to join us for late-night poker and ghost hunting, they have weekend packages that include dinner, show and accommodations. Either way, please join us at this wonderful venue for 3 sets of jazz from the JPQ.

The series, which is being produced by my company J&J Music, also features the likes of the Rik Wright Quintet, the Mack Grout Trio, Kiko Freitas, Isabella DuGraf, and the Marco de Carvalho Trio. Click here for all the details.

The beautiful photo of Nate and me in the ad pictured was taken by Gerald Pope. We met Gerald and his wife and partner Airika when we played at Ryan & Kelly’s wedding at Canlis Restaurant and hit it off immediately. We had a luxurious dinner in the main room and got to know eachother well. I knew they would take great photos before I even saw their photos. Check out their wedding blog here.
