Once again the JPQ packed the house at Egan’s this past Saturday. Thanks to the Shanley High School Choirs (pictured), who were in town from Fargo, ND for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, we had a full house and a wonderful crowd to play for.
I was joined by my regular bandmates Josh Rawlings on piano, Evan Flory-Barnes on bass and D’Vonne Lewis on drums. We had just come from the JazzTV taping (see below), and we were all warmed up and ready to go! The boys and I tore through some of my originals from our debut CD, some of our favorite not-so-standard standards, and read two new tunes of mine, “Bashert” and “Contact”. I had an aunt & uncle in town from Sun Valley, and it was nice to see them and have them catch the band, which they’d never seen before. They were sufficiently blown away!
Our friend Jacob Stickney and his band Flow followed us, and his trumpet player called in sick, so I sat in with them for a few tunes. Josh and Evan were on the band, as was their regular partner in The Teaching, drummer Jeremy Jones, who is always a treat to play with. Thanks to Jacob and the boys for letting me sit in.
